Directors of the Lower Brushy Creek WCID will host an information session 6-7:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 8 at the Taylor Public Library to talk about a proposed rehabilitation of the dam at Site 25, also known as the ski lake, which is located just west of the Taylor Municipal Airport.
Part of the funding of the estimated $5 million project will come from the Biden Administration’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which was signed into law last year. The Act will fund approximately 65% of the project. The State of Texas will put up 33% and local taxpayers will fund the remaining 2%.
Those interested will hear an overview of the project and have the opportunity to provide input. Comments will be taken until Jan. 8, 2023.
The Lower Brushy Creek Water Control and Improvement District (WCID), local sponsor of this Watershed, and the United States Department of Agriculture-Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS) are beginning the planning process to develop a Supplemental Watershed Plan and Environmental Assessment for the rehabilitation needs for the structure, located approximately 2 miles north of the intersection between US Highway 79 and CR 101.
This project is part of the Small Watershed Rehabilitation Amendments of 2000 (Section 313, PL 106-472). This legislation authorized the USDA-NRCS to work with local community leaders and watershed sponsors to rehabilitate aging watershed dams built under Public Law 78-534, Public Law 83-566, and the Pilot Watershed programs.
Those interested will hear an overview of the project and have the opportunity to provide input. Comments will be taken until Jan. 8, 2023.
